✅ **What You’ll Learn**:
AI was once again the buzzword for this latest batch of YC Demo Day companies. Nearly 190 companies participated in Y Combinator’s Winter ’26 panel and presented their startups at a demo day on Tuesday.
These companies work on products across industries such as law, transportation, and healthcare.
Admittedly, I didn’t listen to every single product pitch due to the sheer size of the group and this year’s demo day format available to the media: YC posted the pitch videos, one at a time, about 20 minutes after the pitches (instead of a live stream, or an in-person session invite).
Instead, I read about all 190 startups that pitched and spent the day watching pitches from the ones we found interesting, then narrowed it down to 16 companies that stood out as the most interesting startups in YC’s crowded category.
ARC Award Foundation
What does: Create benchmarks to help measure progress toward AGI.
Why is it interesting: Nonprofit organization at YC! But again, when OpenAI, Anthropic, and GoogleMind already use some form of enterprise standards, it makes sense to include them. This foundation aims to inspire more open source AGI research by hosting competitions and awarding research grants. One of the reasons for this AI revolution is the arrival of artificial general intelligence (which Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says has already arrived), and it will be a historical record to track how close we are to AI machines with general intelligence.
Asimov
What does: It collects human movement data to train human subjects
TechCrunch event
San Francisco, California
|
October 13-15, 2026
Why is it interesting: People from all over the world send videos of themselves performing movements and tasks to this company so it can then turn them into datasets that can help train robots. He’s part of a movement that’s trying to make humanoid robots a thing, finding uses for them outside the supply chain and entertainment. I’m optimistic about human technology, even though the era of “Rosie the Robot” may be eons away. Using data to teach human subjects the flow of human movement — and dare I say biasedly, its elegance — can help them feel less like robots as they perform tasks.
voice
What does: It helps automate the tedious non-design work of architecture firms
Why is it interesting: It’s not every day that we hear about new technology targeting the architectural industry. The founders themselves have noted that this market is underserved (although rich in potential). This tool uses artificial intelligence to help automate tasks that creative people like architects find tedious such as reviewing specifications, drawings, contracts, and proposals.
Computer button
What does: Wearable artificial intelligence
Why is it interesting: Everyone is trying to make wearable AI a reality while the world waits for OpenAI’s product following its acquisition of Johnny Ive’s company. Two former Apple members (can I call them that?) have joined together to launch Button, which is essentially a mini-computer, as the founders explain, designed for artificial intelligence. Button connects to apps like Email, Slack, and Salesforce and launches them via voice command to perform specific tasks. The next must-have devices will likely be some form of wearable AI, so it’s interesting to see what emerges.
CodeWisp
What does: Let’s build games with AI
Why is it interesting: All you have to do is tell the AI how to make a game, and it will make the game, the founders say. This is fun, creative, exciting! I tried designing games as a kid and always found it difficult and boring, but the excitement of designing images never went away. Although spirited programming has become popular in creating applications, tools like these make imaginative implementation much easier. Maybe this will be the next generation of atmosphere building.
Crosslayer Laboratories
What does: Helps detect fake websites
Why is it interesting: The rise of proxies means that websites are becoming easier to spoof, as bad guys are not shy about using this technique to trick people. Crosslayer Labs helps its customers discover and monitor their online settings so they can stay protected against this shadow of emerging Internet threats.
Doom
What does: He teaches you languages as you walk around
Why is it interesting: We spend a lot of time thinking about crucial matters, filling our brains with waste that eventually leads to us being disturbed or our brains atrophy. This startup is an app that shows users short videos, such as how to watch and scroll through them on a TikTok feed, in the language they are trying to learn. If there has to be some meaning to all the content we put into our heads all day, what a great way to find it. It combines what consumers won’t stop doing (spending hours on their phones browsing content) with something as cool as learning a language. Very interesting.
Lexius
What does: Integrates advanced artificial intelligence into security systems
Why is it interesting: This uses AI to enhance existing security camera systems, allowing footage to detect and report theft or falls, essentially replacing a fragmented manual process. The startup says it is targeting companies with cameras that do not contain artificial intelligence, where the camera may capture an incident, but the company delays taking any action.
Librar Laboratories
What does: AI-powered library management system tool
Why is it interesting: This is artificial intelligence touching one of those industries that is often overlooked by the technology industry – libraries. This startup has created an AI-powered library management system to specifically help schools, as of now, with inventory and cataloging processes. As the founder said in his presentation, there isn’t much competition when it comes to automating or innovating tools already used in the field, making any new idea a contender for the “next big thing.”
Millray
What does: A radar system to help track small drones
Why is it interesting: Defense technology is one of the hottest categories in technology right now. As the founder of this company said, right now, people are out in the fields doing everything they can to track small drones, but the human eye can miss a lot or mistake a small drone for a bird, and vice versa. This startup uses sensors to determine what actually is a small drone in the sky. Given the current state of geopolitics, new – and emerging – technologies are emerging so that every country can stay ahead of the game and its enemies.
MouseCat
What does: Artificial intelligence is used to investigate fraud
Why is it interesting: AI is a great tool for business, and this applies to those whose businesses are characterized by fraud and deception. This company pulls company data from large cloud storage like Databricks or Snowflake, analyzes consumer data and activity for anything suspicious, and makes recommendations on how to take action. Native AI tools like this are important when it comes to keeping up with the bad AI they’re also capable of unleashing.
Opalite health
What does: Artificial intelligence is used to help healthcare providers speak to non-English speakers
Why is it interesting: There is a lot to explain when two people cannot understand each other. In the world of medicine, it can be life or death. This AI-powered medical translator helps break the language barrier, enabling healthcare providers to understand patients who speak a different language. In a globalized world (and in a country as diverse as America), it is important that people can access the health care they need, regardless of language. Of course, this idea isn’t entirely innovative, as a number of other startups and health tech providers offer a similar service.
Sequence markets
What does: Let people trade across different markets, such as cryptocurrencies and forecasting, in one system.
Why is it interesting: As someone who likes everything in one place, I understand the desire for a less fragmented process when executing trades in these markets. This is the same reason I still like to go to big box retailers to buy name brands (I like to see all my options at once).
Look
What does: A video library that contains basically everything
Why is it interesting: These startups call themselves the “Universal Video Library,” which is pretty cool if you ask me. I grew up on YouTube and Tumblr and I remember how precise the search was back then, when you were looking for something specific. Although this is more of a dedicated video index to help AI Labs find diverse datasets efficiently, I like any tool that makes searching and organizing easier.
Sunarly
What does: It helps the software fix its production issues
Why is it interesting: This startup makes technology that looks pretty cool. It connects to other monitoring systems, promises to reduce alert noise (a distraction from finding alerts that actually matter), and automatically identifies the root causes of problems, then finds ways to either fix them or suggest further actions to engineers. While there are a growing number of startups in the field of AI code review (and this feature is also offered by modellers), there should be room for independent companies once the code reaches production systems. This is another aspect of the workflow that founders automate.
Tyrannox I
What does: Uses artificial intelligence to find uranium deposits in North America
Why is it interesting: Uranium will be needed to power the next generation of nuclear power, as the founders of this company reminded us. (Nuclear power is generally considered safe these days, although uranium itself is clearly toxic—and the founder did not include in his pitch how it could be mined safely.) These founders believed that nuclear power would be necessary to help power all the new data centers being built. The Earth will need a lot of energy, from many sources, to ensure that its human population can keep up with the ambitions of the artificial intelligence revolution.
