elsewhere, Kirsty Muir She enjoyed a confident start to her Olympic campaign, finishing third in the downhill freestyle skiing heats.

Muir, one of Team GB’s best medal hopes, scored a best of 64.98 in her two rounds in Livigno.

This puts the 21-year-old behind Switzerland’s Mathilde Grimaud and China’s Elaine Gu – the 2022 Beijing gold and silver medalists respectively – in the standings.

Muir told BBC Sport: “I feel really comfortable. I was really nervous this morning. Doing well in the qualifiers was important for me because I wanted to be in this final.”

“In the qualifiers, it’s sometimes more nerve-wracking, whereas in the final, you give it your best, you either get it or you don’t. That’s what I’ll be ready for.”

Gu, a three-time medalist four years ago, is one of the biggest global stars at these Games but avoided an early shock after hitting the first rail of her opening run.

After nearly a year out with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, Muir won three World Cup golds last year, including two in slopestyle.

The Olympic final will be held on Monday at 11:30 GMT.

In Tesero, Anna Price She made history when she became the first British athlete to compete in the women’s 10km+10km ski event at the Olympics.

Price, who switched allegiance from Canada last year, was 42nd, finishing seven minutes and 24 seconds behind gold medalist Frida Carlsson of Sweden.

Price said she was so excited about her Olympic debut that she was “laughing at first.”

“Maybe I should have been more nervous, I don’t know. But I feel very comfortable and that probably translates to the skating, which has been great,” she said.
