Charlotte Banks and Hugh Nightingale won the mixed team snowboard gold medal – the first Winter Olympic title for a Great Britain snowboard team.
After heartbreak in the individual events, the British duo bounced back with an impressive performance to add Olympic gold to the world championship title they won in 2023.
In an event with the men racing first, Nightingale crossed the finish line in second place to edge out Banks – and used her impressive speed on the board to take the lead and edge out Italy’s Michela Moioli at the finish line.
This is the second silver in a row in this event for Moioli and Lorenzo Sommareva, while Frenchmen Luan Pozzolo and Lea Casta won the bronze medal.
Banks, a former singles world champion and two-time World Cup winner, was shocked on Friday when she crashed out of the women’s event in the quarterfinals, just as she did four years ago in Beijing, despite being widely tipped for a medal.
Likewise, Nightingale wanted more from himself after crashing out of the men’s competition in the round of 16, but he found another level to deliver his best races alongside Banks.
