Four years is a long time to wait to correct a mistake.
In Beijing 2022, Bruce Mowat and Jane Dodds lost their lead in the mixed doubles match in the curling semi-final against Norway. Gold went. Silver too.
Even bronze eluded them against an inspired Sweden the next day.
On Wednesday, in the snowy splendor of Cortina d’Ampezzo in northern Italy, the Great Britain pair will have the chance to shake things up when they face the Norwegians again in the first of nine quarter-final matches at the 2026 Games.
In the first event of this year’s event, the childhood friends from Edinburgh will reprise their competition with the husband-and-wife team of Magnus Niedregoten and Kristen Skaslen, who took silver four years ago after taking bronze in 2018.
“That first mixed doubles match we played was the most nervous we’ve ever played any of our matches,” Mowat said earlier this week.
“And then when we reached the semi-finals, that feeling came back. But this time, we have experience and we will rely heavily on that.”
