The man who revived Nigeria’s World Cup dream is Eric Chile.

The Malian became the first non-Nigerian African to coach the Super Eagles when he was appointed in January.

He is unbeaten in six competitive matches, with four wins and two draws, and Iwobi says the 48-year-old has created a positive atmosphere among the squad.

“Our coach constantly reminds us that we are capable of overcoming all circumstances,” the Fulham midfielder explained.

“He’s a great guy. We almost don’t look at him as a manager, but as a big brother. He’s created a big brotherhood.”

“You see him on the touchline. He gets hot – he’s literally trying to fight for us.

“It motivates us, because we want to play not only for Nigeria, but for him as well,” he added.

Iwobi also had a message for fans who were unhappy with the team’s qualifying campaign so far.

“It wasn’t the greatest of starts,” he admitted, knowingly an understatement.

“But they (the fans) also need to understand that we all have the same goal.

“I understand their disappointment because we are very disappointed not to win games comfortably or beat teams that we probably should have.

“We feel that on any given day, if we give 100%, and we have the players to do that, we can beat any team.

“But there’s one thing that says it, we have to prove it.”
