But the South Koreans, who finished fifth at this year’s Winter Olympics, took four singles matches before the Scots got a single point.

A three in the sixth end brought the Henderson rink back into contention, but that was their only score.

In their second game, Canada got a crucial solo steal in the ninth end when Henderson was too heavy trying to push.

Scotland then ran out of stones in the 10th to give Canada the win meaning they join Switzerland on seven wins.

“We lost control a little bit in the middle of the game,” said Shannon Birchard of Canada. “We started strong and let them get back into the game a little bit, but I think we finished strong, too.”

The Scots beat Denmark and the United States, in addition to Japan’s victory, but they lost to China, Turkey, Switzerland and Sweden.

The Henderson rink – Lisa Davey, Hayley Duff and Katie McMillan – are competing in their first world championships after recently winning the national championship in Dumfries in the absence of the Sophie Jackson rink, which represented Great Britain at the Olympics.

The British rink lost 9-3 to the same South Korean rink in Cortina.

The 2026 World Women’s Curling Championship features 13 teams who qualified from the 2025 European Curling Championship and the 2025 Pan Continental Curling Championship.
