✅ Key idea:

Last month at Worlds 2025, Mercedes Moon teamed with Athena to challenge The Babes of Wrath for the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Titles. The champions successfully retained their belts against “Ultimo” Mone and The Fallen Goddess after Willow Nightingale pinned Mercedes’ shoulders to the mat for the three count.

After the pay-per-view, the CEO issued a challenge to The Babe with The Power to face her at Dynamite: New Year’s Smash. However, at last Wednesday’s show, Willow caused a major upset when she knocked out Moon to regain the TBS Championship, a belt she lost to former Sasha Banks last year.

After an incredibly successful first two years in the company, Mercedes’ character appears to have hit a major hurdle, as she will no doubt take her defeat at the hands of Nightingale quite personally. She should be interested in getting back to winning ways in the promotion soon. But there may be more obstacles she has to overcome along the way first.

With all of this in mind, let’s consider three trends for Mercedes Moon following her TBS Championship loss to AEW Dynamite.

#1. Mercedes Moon may be losing her independent titles one by one

Seeing as how Mercedes Moon lost her only title in All Elite Wrestling at the start of the new year, it might not be unreasonable to assume that the former WWE star could take a pause from AEW’s weekly programming. During her absence, The Boss will very likely defend several other belts that she has won across various independent promotions.

Although she has recently lost two of these championships, Mone still holds a host of belts at present, including the EWA Women’s Title, CMLL Women’s World Title, the Bestya and PTW Women’s Titles, the DW Women’s Title, the BODYSLAM Women’s Title, the WPW Women’s Title, and the APAC Women’s Title.

In order to take Mercedes’ “fall” storyline to the next level, she must slowly begin dropping her independent championships one by one during her hiatus from AEW television.

#2. Mercedes Moon can win the 2026 Owen Hart Trophy with some help

Last year, Mercedes Moon competed in the Owen Hart Foundation Championship, defeating Julia Hart in the quarterfinals and Athena in the semifinals to advance to the finals at Double or Nothing 2025, where she defeated Jamie Hayter to officially win the Owen Cup.

The win earned the Professional Wrestling CEO a shot at the AEW Women’s World Title at All In: Texas – unfortunately, the challenger was unable to dethrone defending champion “Timeless” Toni Storm at the blockbuster stadium PPV.

When she lost to Storm, Mercedes’ singles dominance in All Elite Wrestling took its first major blow. Now that she no longer has any AEW gold medals around her waist, Moon is likely more desperate than ever to get the top prize for the company’s women’s division. To do so, she could enter the 2026 Owen Hart Tournament for another women’s world title. Moon could also enlist outside help to ensure she wins the championship again – for example, her long-rumoured faction with The Renegade Twins could enable her to retain the Owen Cup.

#3. Mercedes Moon could finally win the AEW Women’s Championship at All In 2026

For nearly two years, All Elite Wrestling has been telling a compelling story with Mercedes Mone, revolving around the latter’s inability to capture the All Elite Wrestling Women’s World Title, despite wearing gold from other promotions. Both world champions who have beaten the former rider so far, Toni Storm and Kris Statlander, have hinted that Mercedes continues to fall short because it lacks full focus on the world title.

If AEW follows a storyline for Moon that explores the trends outlined above, her journey could eventually culminate in her capturing the Women’s World Championship this year at All In: London 2026. She could do so by defeating any of her main rivals in the company, such as Kris Statlander, Toni Storm, or even Willow Nightingale, if the latter somehow enters the August 30 pay-per-view with the title.

Beating Willow in the World Championship will no doubt be a special vindication for Mercedes, especially after Nightingale snatched the TBS title from them last Wednesday.
