The sequel to the 2003 body-swapping comedy was bound to raise expectations, so in Nisha Ganatra’s new film there are not two but four people inhabiting the wrong flesh and bones. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan return as mother and daughter Tess and Anna, while Julia Butters is Anna’s teenage daughter Harper. Add Sophia Hammons as Anna’s soon-to-be stepdaughter and the mixing is frantic. It’s clear that Curtis and Lohan are having so much fun being irresponsible kids that the plot turns on them in an attempt to stop their parents’ marriage. Simon Wardle

It’s their first Christmas since their divorce, but parents Kate (Alicia Silverstone) and Everett (Oliver Hudson) are spending it together one last time as a family. However, Everett also brings along his new girlfriend, Tess (Jameela Jamil), while Kate recovers by hooking up with sexy young pine tree salesman Chet (Pearson Foday). Steve Carr’s comedy-drama doesn’t break the mold of festive films but it never feels like it wants to – Christmas comfort is everything. Southwest
