Norwich have held talks with Gary O’Neill as they search for a new manager.
The Canaries met with O’Neill, who played for the club between 2014 and 2016, earlier this week as they ramped up their recruitment process.
Liam Manning was sacked on Saturday following the recent 2-1 defeat to Leicester City, their last eight games at Carrow Road this season.
The result left the Canaries in 23rd place in the tournament.
Norwich is scheduled to speak to the other contenders within the next 48 hours.
Manning beat out O’Neill for the job in the summer, joining from Bristol City, but the club has kept its lines of communication open with the former Wolves boss.
O’Neill withdrew from the race for a surprise return to Molineux last week, citing concerns about the club’s current suitability.
Wolves are expected to appoint Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards, a former player and coach at Molineux, this week.
O’Neill, who also managed Bournemouth, has been out of work since being sacked by Wolves last December.
The former midfielder made 55 appearances for Norwich, winning promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2015.
