Beattie believes that Chelsea’s problems stem from the many changes that have occurred in the starting lineup.
The Blues have made 25 changes to their starting XI in the WSL this season, five more than any other team.
“They have to keep everyone happy and rotate somewhat, but I don’t know, I’ve always felt as a player that you have to maintain a certain level of consistency in order to maintain that level,” Beattie told Women’s Football Weekly radio.
Aggie Beaver-Jones started the season as Chelsea’s outright striker, leading the line for their first seven games before sustaining an injury on international duty with England last month.
Catarina Macario has also been used as a central striker, while club record holder Alyssa Thompson has yet to cement her regular place in Bombastor’s starting line-up – having made just two starts in the WSL.
Australian striker Sam Kerr returns from a long spell on the sidelines, coming off the bench in seven games this season, with Lauren James also back in the line-up as another attacking option for Bombastor.
Former England striker Ellen White added: “I completely agree with what Jane is saying in terms of the lack of consistency in the starting XI.”
“They’ve had some injuries and obviously they’re playing three or four days in a row all the time, and obviously that rotation is essential for recovery and recovery as well.
“But it’s just trying to get that rhythm and that consistency and that flow and those connections. It wasn’t quite working on the weekend.”
