Right-back Lucy Bronze has been named in the England squad for this month’s friendlies against Brazil and Australia despite returning from injury on Sunday.

This is the first team selection by Sarina Wegman since England won Euro 2025 in July, and there are several key players missing through injury.

But Bronze, 33, has recovered from a broken leg she played with during Euro 2025 and was a late substitute in Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday, her first appearance of the season.

Captain Leah Williamson is not in the squad due to a knee injury while Chelsea striker Lauren James is also out with an ankle problem.

Williamson and James are yet to play this season as a result of injuries they sustained during Euro 2025.

Striker Lauren Hemp is also absent after suffering an ankle injury during Manchester City’s win over Tottenham on September 19.

Chelsea captain Millie Bright (32 years old) retired from international football on Monday after participating in 88 international matches, and Wegman called up 19-year-old Arsenal center back Katie Reid for the first time.

Also included is Reid’s club teammate, Taylor Hinds, who joined Arsenal from Liverpool in the summer.

The 26-year-old had previously switched allegiances to Jamaica but has not represented them in a competitive match and is therefore eligible to play for the Lionesses.

Hinds featured in the 3-0 friendly defeat to France in October 2024 for Jamaica having previously played for the England youth team.

Another defender, Niamh Charles, recovered from an ankle injury in time to start for Chelsea on Sunday and join the squad.

Midfielder Grace Clinton was excluded from the Manchester City squad that beat Liverpool on Sunday due to a bruise, but she was also included.

Aston Villa midfielder Lucia Kendall, 21, has also received her first senior call-up after impressive performances for her new club since her move from Southampton.

England face Brazil at Etihad Stadium on Saturday 25 October (17:30 GMT), before taking on Australia at Pride Park on Tuesday 28 October (19:00 GMT).
