The rise of wayward batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi in cricket continues as he registered the second-fastest hundred by an Indian on the opening day of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Opening the batting for Bihar, the left-handed batsman reached the three-figure mark off just 36 deliveries, marginally missing the record held by Anmolpreet Singh.

After winning the 2025-2026 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the 2025 AFC U-19 Trophy, Suryavanshi showed off his rich style as his team got off to a strong start in Ranchi on Wednesday, 24 December. He reached the fifty-run mark off 25 deliveries, needing just 11 more balls to reach his maiden list-hundred.

Apart from being the second fastest hundred in the history of Indian cricket, he also became the youngest player to score a hundred in men’s cricket overall. At the time of writing, he had crossed the mark of 150 runs plus just 59 deliveries and, thus, became the youngest to achieve the feat in List A cricket. He broke the record held by Aayush Mhatre, who scored 181 for Mumbai against Nagaland in the previous edition.

Prior to the ongoing Vijay Hazare match, Vaibhav Suryavanshi did not have a strong List A record, scoring just 132 runs in six matches at an average of 22, which included one fifty. However, these innings put him on the map in the over-50 category as well, especially after a good List A tournament in the Under-19 Asia Cup.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi was in the spotlight after a brawl in the 2025 AFC U-19 Asian Cup final.

The opening knock could not have made a huge impact in Team India’s chase in the U-19 Asia Cup final after a massive target of 348 runs was set. He was dismissed for 26 runs off 10 balls, and took his farewell after losing a wicket in the fifth over.

Opposition fans also booed the youngster after the Aayush Mhatre-led team lost by 191 points.
