Sophie Unwin and Jenny Hall triumphed in the women’s Individual B race to claim Britain’s third gold medal on day two of the Para Cycling World Championships.
The pair, who set a new world record in qualifying, set a brilliant pace to overcome a two-second deficit and beat New Zealanders Emma Foy and Jessie Hodges, rounding off a fantastic day for the British team in Rio de Janeiro.
Earlier in the evening, Jodi Cundy claimed his second gold in as many days by winning the inaugural men’s C4 sprint title, while James Ball and Stefan Lloyd took gold in the men’s B 1km sprint.
Conde (47 years old) led from start to finish, ahead of Belgian Jarno Terence and Australian Michael Shipley to win his 23rd gold medal in world track races.
Paul and his pilot Lloyd were equally impressive as they finished second ahead of Australians Ken Piris and Luc Zaccaria, while Italians Stefano Meroni and Francesco Ceci finished third.
Kadena Cox took silver in the women’s KC4 behind Australia’s Tara Neyland after being unable to maintain her strong start.
Finn Graham claimed his second medal of the week with bronze in the men’s C3 1km time trial, while Lizzie Jordan and pilot Daniel Khan caught Poland’s Karolina Karasiewicz and Dominika Butria to take bronze in the women’s B individual pursuit.
However, there was disappointment for Blaine Hunt, who fell in the men’s C5 elimination race.
The British team now has four gold medals, three silver medals and five bronze medals overall.
