Promoter Eddie Hearn expects British heavyweight Anthony Joshua to fight again following the deaths of two of his close friends, but admits there are “no guarantees”.

The 36-year-old suffered minor injuries in a traffic accident in Nigeria on December 29 that killed Sina Gami and Latif โ€œLatzโ€ Ayodele.

The two-time world champion returned to training in January, and posted a video on social media exercising under the slogan โ€œCure Mental Strength.โ€

Hearn, who has promoted Joshua since he turned professional after winning gold at the 2012 Olympics, believes he will return to the ropes this year.

โ€œI donโ€™t think there are any guarantees that he will fight again, but at the same time I expect him to, because it is something he loves,โ€ Hearn said in an interview with First Round TV.

โ€œAnd that’s something he can carry those guys with him as well and it’s something he wants to do.

“From a boxing perspective, what he went through wasn’t easy physically either. Maybe people don’t realize the extent of it.”

He added: “He has been training, but he is not ready yet and will not be able to return to boxing training for a while.”
