Nottingham Forest: New manager Sean Dyche believes Premier League style does not matter

“I’ve seen enough fashionistas in and out of this department,” says Sean Dyche, Nottingham Forest’s new manager. “You have to win games, it’s that simple.”

The 54-year-old may not class himself as a fashion designer in football, but as coaches increasingly focus on set-pieces and ‘moving long’ he could find himself in vogue.

Ange Postecoglou lasted just 39 days at Forest after being brought in to win trophies and playing more expansive attacking football after replacing Nuno Espirito Santo on 9 September.

They lost six and drew two of their eight matches as the team struggled to adapt quickly enough to the demands of the new coach.

Shortly after Daichi descended the steps of the club museum at Trent End as Forest’s third manager of the season, he laid out his philosophy and style, having been criticized at Burnley and Everton.

“I did a podcast with Tony Pulis and Mick McCarthy, and Tony is now being praised for his long throws when he was getting beaten before. [as manager of Stoke]Said Daiichi, who signed a contract until the summer of 2027.

“It’s the fashion of football, it changes all the time and I’m not talking one way or the other, but the thing I like is when you win.

“Forest fans accepted a different way of working than in the history of this club last season which was very successful. They are more open now.

“The players realize that. I’ve had a lot of feedback from the players. They’re very proud of what they did last season. That’s not a problem for me because I agree with them. Now can we shape it a little differently while keeping the winning mentality?”

“Long ball, short ball? You just have to play effective football. And that never gets old.”
