Fishlock is Wales’ most capped and all-time top scorer, and will win her 166th and final cap against the Matildas.
Having starred at Euro 2025, she was tempted to continue playing for Wales to try and help them qualify for the 2027 World Cup.
“There was a huge temptation to stay for it, but in the end I didn’t think it was the smart or right thing to do for myself or for Wales,” Fishlock added.
“I made the decision after the European Championships. It was not a decision I took lightly.
“It took me a few months to figure out what I really wanted to do.
“I have had conversations with my family and my partner and have come to the decision that this is the right time to say goodbye.
“Ultimately, I felt like I wouldn’t be able to commit to the courses as much as I had in the past, and that’s not where I am now.
“If I commit to something, I love committing to it full force, and I felt like I couldn’t really do it, so I knew it was the right time to quit.
“It’s time for the new group to take Wales forward, and when you put it all together it was a really easy decision.”
