Arsenal’s 4-1 north London derby win over Tottenham was postponed twice due to communication problems between the match officials.
The match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was delayed for more than five minutes in the first half due to a problem with the battery worn by assistant referee Blake Antrobus.
Play was suspended because Antrobus was unable to speak to referee Peter Banks and other officials.
The start of the second half was also delayed by several minutes, and Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta did not seem amused.
βEvery time we are [late] βWhen we came out of the dressing room, we got huge fines,β he said afterwards.
“So, I said to them, ‘Who’s going to get this fine because that’s six, seven, eight, nine minutes? So, yeah, we’ve got one in the bag now.’
Sky pundit Gary Neville, who was summarizing the match, described the events as “absolute chaos”.
Former Premier League referee Darren Cane told BBC Sport that the match could not resume until the issue was resolved.
βApparently the far side assistant referee, Blake Antrobus, had an issue with the battery pack he wears on his arm,β Kahn said.
βIt is important that the match officials can hear each other because they are in constant contact throughout the match.
He added: βTherefore, the match will be stopped until one of the Falcon Eye operators can stand next to the assistant referee to fix the communication problem.β
BBC Sport asked Hawk Eye for comment, but they have not yet responded.
