💡 Main takeaway:
Carter Vickers has featured in 13 of Celtic’s 15 games this season, so his absence would be a huge blow to Rodgers’ side. But it also provides opportunities for others.
Celtic are not short of centre-backs – Trusty, Murray, Hayato Inamura and Jahmae Simpson-Bosey are available for the manager to choose from – but they appear to lack the central defenders that Rodgers is keen to bring in.
Trusty has struggled with injury this season and has only played 62 minutes this season, while the inexperienced Murray has only made three appearances.
Inamura, who joined this summer from Japanese side Albirex Niigata, made just one appearance in a 3-0 win over Livingston in August.
He has played just once for the reserve team since Rodgers claimed the defender was “not at the level required” to start for Celtic.
There’s also Simpson Bossy, who joined on loan from Manchester City at the end of the summer window but has also played just once for the second team.
If Rodgers were to call up either of the latter, it would have to be for domestic matches only as neither are listed in Parkhead’s European squad.
So Rodgers has to make a decision. Does he continue with Scales as the main centre-back and add any of the four to his side? Or does he change things up and try different formations with the other four defenders he has to choose from?
The manager will have to choose quickly and with a match against league leaders Hearts on Sunday, he can’t really go wrong.
