Port Vale boss Darren Moore is part of the league’s Black Participants Advisory Group which looks to guide coaches from minority backgrounds throughout their careers.
Along with Moore, West Ham United’s Nuno Espirito Santo, Blackburn Rovers’ Valerien Ismail and Huddersfield Town’s Lee Grant are the only black coaches in the top four divisions.
“I look at myself and in this position, and I hope I will be seen as someone who represents all British managers,” said Moore, the former West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield Wednesday coach.
“That’s what you want him to get to. You want to push him towards that. You don’t want to talk about me as a leader. You want people to look to the leadership and represent all managers.”
“That’s the thing I’m working towards. At the same time, if I’m seen as a mentor and a good performer, that’s great too.”
Premier League Professional Player Chart for Coach [PPCS] And the coach’s inclusion and diversity plan [CIDS] Supported 100 trainers, 91% of whom work full time.
PPCS is a joint program between the Premier League, the EFL and the Professional Footballers’ Association and aims to support former players from black, Asian and mixed heritage backgrounds who have ambitions to coach at Premier League and English Football League clubs.
CIDS supports coaches from Black, Asian and mixed heritage backgrounds by providing employment and training opportunities within the Premier League and EFL Academies.
“When you look at the football pyramid, there’s a lot that when you move across the leagues and you look at assistant coaches and first-team coaches, they’re up there,” Moore added.
“If you look at the Premier League, Nuno is there but Kolo Toure is there [an assistant] In man city, [assistant] Justin Cochrane is at Tottenham.”
