With Armagh claiming the first senior football title in its 92-year history, it was always going to be an emotional day for everyone involved in Madden.
The 0-20 to 0-9 win over Cullehanna, who were also looking to break down their first line of defence, was greeted with wild celebrations after the final whistle.
On such occasions, thoughts often go to those who were not there to share the moment, and for the Grimley family in particular, it was tears of joy mixed with sadness.
In November 2023, midfielder Niall Grimley lost his brother Patrick and sister-in-law Ciara in a road accident that also claimed the life of Ciara McIlvanna – a tragedy that shook the club and the community.
Amid the joy of Sunday’s win, everyone was in thoughts of the Madden Club, with Grimley thanking those who would have enjoyed such an occasion.
“There are a couple of people who are not here, but this was for them,” he told BBC Sport NI’s Mark Sidebottom.
“There were some injured players on the sideline and we said we would support them. This is amazing – I feel like I’m dreaming.”
“These boys – my brothers, my cousins, my family – they all bleed red and black, and it’s amazing to be here and celebrate this with people I’ve grown up with my whole life.
“This community and this club are special. They’ve given me everything my whole life and I just want to give them something. If it’s kicking a football around the field, I’ll do it 100 times out of 100.”
