Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that James Trafford will be the goalkeeper in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final at Wembley, but Mikel Arteta has refused to say who will be Arsenal’s starting goalkeeper.

Guardiola said he would continue his policy of playing Trafford in domestic cup matches, although he did not make any assurances about the 23-year-old’s long-term situation.

Trafford returned to City from Burnley last summer in a ยฃ27m deal and was seen as a replacement for Ederson.

However, he was soon dropped from his starting place as the club signed Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain.

Asked about Trafford’s recent comments about expecting to play more, Guardiola said: โ€œPlayers can be happy, or unhappy. That’s the way it is.

“They have to be here to do their best and then we will see what happens at the end of the season. The important thing is that they are ready.”

He said he was “very happy” with Trafford’s position, but said his selection came as part of a “big moment for the team”.

Meanwhile, Arteta gave no clue when speaking to reporters about who will start in goal.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has been the North London side’s goalkeeper in domestic cup competitions, with David Raya taking to the field in the Premier League and Champions League.
