A non-league football match was called off after a brawl between fans and players in the second half.
The fight broke out behind one goal during the end of the Northern Premier League match between Oldham-based Avro and Kidsgrove Athletic on Saturday afternoon.
The match was stopped in the 84th minute with Avro leading 6-0 against nine-man Kidsgrove. In video footage, it appears that one of the players was standing near the goal hitting a fan.
Afro said she was “appalled” by the incident. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said it was investigating the matter, but no arrests had been made.
The brawl broke out after an altercation in the stands, and footage, shared on social media, showed Kidsgrove players leaving the game as they became involved.
One of the players was seen jumping over advertising boards to reach the stands.
A GMP spokesman said officers were “currently investigating the circumstances”.
The incident was also reported to the Football Association.
“We as a club are appalled by the behavior of some fans, players and officials at Kidsgrove Athletic,” Avro said in a statement.
She added: “The incident came after the expulsion of a member of the Kidsgrove management team who was not present at the stadium.”
Staffordshire-based Kidsgrove Athletic said in a statement: “As a club, we do not condone any form of inappropriate behaviour. We are committed to upholding the values of respect and sportsmanship on and off the field.”
“No further statement will be made until the investigation is completed.”
