Jonathan Joshi suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the attack

A professional football player was injured during a stabbing attack that occurred on a train heading to London on Saturday evening.

The club said Scunthorpe United player Jonathan Joshi “sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the attack.”

The club told the BBC that the player suffered an injury to his biceps muscle and underwent surgery in the hospital, where he remains.

A man has been charged after 11 people were injured during the attack in Huntingdon.

The National League side said in a statement: “Everyone at the club, from the board, management and his teammates, along with all the staff behind the scenes, send our heartfelt wishes for Jonathan’s full recovery, which also extend to all the victims on board.”

Passengers traveling from Doncaster to London on the LNER service have been subjected to a mass stabbing attack.

Eleven people received treatment in hospital following the attack. One of them – a train crew member – is in “critical but stable condition.”

Anthony Williams, 32, of no fixed address, appeared in Peterborough District Court on Monday charged with 10 counts of attempted murder, one count of actual bodily harm and one count of possession of a sharp object.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Cambridge Crown Court on December 1.
