Aaron Wainwright: The Welsh number eight is set to leave the Dragons and join Leicester

Wainwright has made 129 appearances for the Dragons since making his debut in October 2017, winning just 29, with 93 defeats and seven draws.

He has rejected further offers in favor of signing a new Dragons deal in January 2024.

Wainwright is now expected to decide to try another challenge and link up with fellow Welsh back-rowers Tommy Revell and Ollie Cracknell at Leicester.

Wainwright will remain available for Wales as he has won 62 caps.

Welsh rugby’s rule of 25 caps states that anyone under that number cannot play international rugby if they sign for a club outside Wales, but Wainwright crosses that barrier with ease.

A large proportion of Steve Tandy’s Wales squad ply their trade with clubs in England with 13 non-local players named in the autumn squad.

Wainwright, Leek and Morgan join the likes of David Jenkins, Louis Rhys-Zammit, Tomos Williams, Rhys Carré, Nicky Smith, Nick Tompkins, Jarrod Evans, Max Llewellyn and Freddie Thomas, who all play for English clubs, while Luke Adam Bird plays for French club Montpellier.

Leicester were also keen to recruit Welsh midfielder Dan Edwards, but are on the verge of committing his future to the Ospreys.

Edwards (22 years old) will not be eligible to participate in the Wales national team if he goes to play in England because he has played only seven international matches.
