Aaron Ray beat Tommy Fleetwood in a play-off to win the Abu Dhabi Championship after a thrilling final round at Yas Links.
Ray made a seven-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to seal victory after fellow Englishman Fleetwood had managed to par.
The pair had earlier finished at the top of the leaderboard at 25 under for the tournament, although Ray missed a chance to win it in regulation when he birdied the 18th at the edge of the hole.
“It’s hard to summarize [my emotions]“You’re so focused on playing the tour and staying in the zone, it’s hard to put into words how you’re feeling right now,” said Ray, 30. “It’s amazing to be standing here.
“Tommy is a special player and an even better person. Playing with him the last two days has been really special. It’s amazing to be here.”
Rory McIlroy finished one shot back after a stunning final-round 62 – his best round on the DP World Tour this season.
Alongside him was Under-24’s Nicolai Hougaard of Denmark, who narrowly missed a chance at the last to join Fleetwood and Ray in the play-off.
