Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi said he is set to face trial after being accused of rape.
A 24-year-old woman accused the Moroccan full-back of raping her at his home in the French capital in 2023. He denies these accusations.
The prosecutor’s office in Nanterre, a western suburb of Paris, began a preliminary investigation in March 2023.
Hakimi said on his account on the X website: “Today, the accusation of rape is enough to justify a trial.”, external.
He added, “This is an injustice to the innocent, as well as an injustice to the real victims. I am calmly awaiting this trial, which will allow the truth to emerge publicly.”
No trial date has been set.
BBC Sport has contacted the Nanterre prosecutor’s office for comment.
Paris Saint-Germain will host Monaco in the second leg of the Champions League preliminary round on Wednesday.
Hakimi was selected in Paris Saint-Germain’s preliminary squad, which was published last Tuesday.
The 27-year-old was born in Spain but represents Morocco and made 194 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain, winning the Champions League and French League titles last season.
His performance saw him honored at the FIFA Best Football Awards held in Paris on Monday evening, where he was named in the FIFA Men’s Team of the Year (FIFPRO).
He was also a key player as Morocco made history by reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup in Qatar in 2022, the first African team to do so.
