Redouane’s impact at Leicester was immediate and prolific, scoring 11 tries in 11 matches to help them reach the Premier League Grand Final last season.
Although this did not bring him straight back into the England fold, he was back on the international radar.
Rizwan was called up to the England squad for the autumn international, but failed to appear in the Test.
Instead, he came off the bench for England’s first XI that lost to New Zealand’s XV in November.
When he spoke to BBC Radio Leicester last year about being left out of the England squad after being called up, he admitted there was “frustration and disappointment”, but was quick to add that there had been no time to “cope and feel sorry for yourself”.
Instead, he said he viewed the experience as additional motivation.
He went on to tell BBC Sport: “You get a little taste of returning to that environment.”
“And it’s like fuel, it keeps you going and keeps you really focused on what you want to get out of it.”
The two-time international added that a return to the England squad – outdone by the rich options of wingers available to Borthwick – is not something he is preoccupied with.
Not that he’s playing now and scoring at an impressive rate for a Tigers side who sit fifth in the Prem table and are looking to challenge for silverware again this season.
He said: “I try not to think about anything other than playing for Leicester, because I really enjoy it very much. I love playing for this club.”
“I’m so grateful to be here. Whatever comes next will come.”
He added: “In the worst-case scenario, I will play for Leicester City, and I would love that.”
