AEW’s highly anticipated return of the Hall of Famers has been officially announced

The WWE and AEW legend will finally make his long-awaited return to the show led by Tony Khan. The person in question, Jim Ross, will return to comment next week.

Good Ol’ JR has been involved with All Elite Wrestling since the company’s founding year. The Hall of Famer brings his wealth of experience, knowledge and expertise to the brand as a commentator on the promotion’s flagship weekly show, AEW Dynamite, as well as on pay-per-view events. Ross has been dealing with some health issues last year and has therefore been missing from the announcers’ desk since Forbidden Door 2025 last August.

Although JR was supposed to return to action at Worlds End 2025, the Jacksonville-based company’s final PPV of the year, he ultimately did not attend the event. It’s clear that Ross’ hiatus will be over soon, as the promotion recently announced that the legend will be commentating on AEW Dynamite next week in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Despite not appearing in Worlds End, JR took to social media to express his thoughts and praise the show and its quality.

Announcing AEW Dynamite next week

The January 7, 2026 episode of Wednesday Night Dynamite will kick off from the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. So far, only two games have been officially announced for the show. The first is a Lights Out match pitting Hangman Adam Page and Swerve Strickland against Hook and the Powerhouse Hobbs of The Opps. The Cowboy and The Moghul challenged Samoa Joe’s teammates to confront them with the brutal stipulation that was implemented earlier this week at Dynamite: New Year’s Smash.

Furthermore, next Wednesday, Jon Moxley will face Shelton Benjamin in an elimination match for the Intercontinental Championship. The match stemmed from The Hurt Syndicate member and his manager MVP silently confronting The One True King following the latter’s successful defense against Josh Alexander.
