📌 Main takeaway:

The winners of the African play-off will qualify for the six-team continental qualifiers, which will take place from 23-31 March 2026 and will determine the final two teams in next year’s World Cup.

Two countries from the CONCACAF region (North and Central America and the Caribbean) and one side each from the Asian, Oceania and South American confederations will also participate.

The six countries will be divided into two parts.

The two highest-seeded teams will be seeded and advance directly to the final in each category, with the four lowest-seeded competitors meeting in the semi-finals.

The United Arab Emirates and Iraq will compete for the Asia place, while Bolivia, which represents South America, and New Caledonia, which represents Oceania, have already reserved their places.

Considering that Bolivia and New Caledonia are ranked 76th and 150th respectively in the world at the moment, this enhances the chances of the African representative to qualify directly to the final.

The draw for the qualifiers, which will be played in single-match knockout matches, with extra time and penalties if necessary, will be held on Thursday 20 November.
