Since moving to Liverpool in 2017, Salah has won every major club trophy, including the Premier League twice and the Champions League.
But this is the continental property that the 33-year-old has spent the twilight years of his career chasing.
“No one, even in Egypt, wants to win this cup more than me,” Salah said after helping his team win over Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals last week.
“I’ve won almost all the awards. This is the title I’ve been waiting for.”
It would be hasty and premature to say that this will be Salah’s last match for Egypt.
The striker, who has made more than 110 international appearances for the Pharaohs since his debut in 2011, could still take part in the 2027 and 2028 editions of the tournament before it switches to a four-year cycle.
But given his age and his long-term future at Liverpool unclear following the public outcry at Elland Road last month, this could be the last time Salah appears in contention as a Premier League talisman.
Speaking after the match, former Chelsea and Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel said: “He has been waiting. We are all fans of Mohamed Salah, I played with him, he is a great guy.”
“He won everything at club level but everyone wanted him to win this title. Now he needs to return to Liverpool and continue his career.”
Meanwhile, former Moroccan midfielder Hassan Kachloul Salah has warned that time is running out to lead Egypt to their eighth Africa Cup of Nations title.
“He will not stop until he gets his reward,” said the 52-year-old, who spent spells at Southampton and Aston Villa during his career. “He will play again in two years.”
He added: “He will try to focus on the next tournament and winning the title. Otherwise, it will be the tournament that will slip away from us, as there will not be many opportunities.”
Salah and Egypt will face Nigeria in the third-place match on Saturday, before returning to Liverpool looking to put that disappointment behind him.
