Eritrea has been included in the draw for the preliminary qualifying round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) despite not being classified by FIFA.
The East African team, which has played just two international matches since February 2020, was withdrawn against Eswatini.
Eritrea withdrew from the same stage of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, and was excluded from the draw for the 2025 edition.
The national team also withdrew from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers just one week before playing its first match against the highest-ranked Moroccan team on the continent.
The draw for the 2027 preliminary round was held in Rabat one day before the semi-finals of the 2025 tournament, where host Morocco will face Nigeria and Senegal will face Egypt.
Elsewhere, the 1962 champion Ethiopia was drawn against Sao Tome and Principe, and Burundi was drawn against Chad.
The two-legged ties will take place in March, with the six winners joining the 42 highest-ranked teams on the continent in the main group stage of the qualifiers.
The Confederation of African Football has not yet announced the dates for the 2027 African Cup of Nations qualifiers and the tournament itself in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
