📌 Here’s what you’ll learn:

Wayne Rooney, the former England and Manchester United striker, said that Alexander Isak, the most expensive British transfer, is not doing enough to justify his participation in Liverpool at the expense of Hugo Ekitiki.

25-year-old Sweden international Isak joined the Reds at the start of September from Newcastle for £125m, but has only scored one goal – in the League Cup – in seven appearances in all competitions.

Sunday’s defeat to Manchester United at Anfield was their third in a row in the Premier League without scoring.

His fellow striker Ekitiki, who was a substitute against the Red Devils, scored four goals for Liverpool, three of them in the league.

Rooney said on the Wayne Rooney Show: “I will not play with Isaac, he has not looked ready since he arrived from Newcastle.”

“He hasn’t trained, he hasn’t had pre-season. It’s very important. While Newcastle were training, he was probably sitting at home on the phone with his agent for six hours a day trying to get a move.”

“It’s very difficult when you don’t have pre-season. He may have done things himself but he’s paying the price for them.

“In terms of performance, he doesn’t deserve to play against Ikitiki.”

The defeat against Manchester United was Liverpool’s fourth consecutive loss in all competitions, and the first time it had endured such a series since November 2014.

Liverpool won the Premier League title last season, and although they have started strongly this season with seven straight wins in all competitions, they rarely produce consistently impressive performances across entire matches.

“They got a bit complacent,” Rooney added.

“As for Arne Slott, I had forgotten because he won the Premier League, but he is still very young – he is 46 and it was the first time he had lost four games in a row in his career.

“[Against Manchester United] He was arguing with the referees on the touchline, and I’ve never seen that from him before.

“We are starting to see things unfold that indicate there is pressure there.”
