Liverpool Goalkeeper Alisson has been ruled out of the Champions League round of 16 first leg against Galatasaray due to injury, but could return for the visit of Marseille. Tottenham On the weekend.
The 33-year-old Brazilian player suffered the injury during a training session shortly before Liverpool traveled to Türkiye to play Tuesday’s match at Rams Park.
Reds coach Arne Slott said in a press conference on Monday that Alisson felt slight discomfort and after consulting with the club’s medical staff, he did not travel to Istanbul with the rest of the team. Liverpool did not reveal details about the injury.
“Ali was of course present at the hearing as many people saw, but unfortunately he felt something off near the end of the hearing,” Slott said.
“People looked at it and we decided, and he decided together, that playing tomorrow is not good enough. And then there is no point in traveling.”
When asked if Alisson would be fit enough for Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, Slott was positive.
“There’s definitely a chance, yes, because we don’t expect it to be that big,” the Dutchman added.
“But it was difficult to be available for tomorrow.”
Brazilian international Alisson missed nine matches this season due to injury.
His absence means Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to make his first Liverpool appearance since the FA Cup win over Barnsley on January 12.
The Georgian has featured 11 times for Liverpool in all competitions this season.
Liverpool is also missing Italian striker Federico Chiesa, who did not travel to Istanbul due to illness.
