Alyssa Healy: Australia is great to retire from cricket after India series

Australia captain Alyssa Healy will retire from all forms of cricket after the upcoming series against India.

The 35-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has more than 7,000 runs and 275 dismissals to her name across all forms of the game and led Australia to a historic 16-0 whitewash of England in the Ashes in 2025.

She has won the World Cup twice, with a highest individual score of 170 in the World Cup final against England in 2022, and the T20 World Cup on six occasions.

“I’m still passionate about playing for Australia, but I’ve kind of lost that competitive edge that kept me going from the start, so it’s a good time to call it a day,” Healy said.

“I will really miss my teammates, singing the team song and coming out to open the batting for Australia. Representing my country has been an incredible honor and I’m grateful for one final series in the green and gold.”

Healy is married to Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc and is the niece of another great Australian player in wicket-keeper Ian Healy. She also has a successful radio career as a critic and commentator.

“Alyssa is one of the game’s all-time greats and has made an invaluable contribution on and off the field over the course of her 15-year career,” Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg said.

“We look forward to celebrating her achievements throughout the series against India.”

Australia hosts India in a Test match, three One-Day Internationals and three T20 matches in February and March.
