American Airlines (AAL) Q3 2025 earnings

American Airlines It posted a smaller-than-expected loss for the third quarter, and its forecast for the rest of the year came in ahead of Wall Street’s expectations, sending the stock higher.

American expects to earn between 45 cents and 75 cents per share in the fourth quarter, which is more than the 31 cents per share that analysts expected. This brings American’s full-year earnings guidance to between 65 cents and 95 cents per share, well above Wall Street’s forecast of 43 cents per share. The transportation company expects its capacity in the fourth quarter to grow by between 3% and 5% compared to the same period last year.

After an eventful quarter, airlines found it harder to make money in the summer than in previous years. Schools are reopening earlier than they used to, and some travelers are choosing to take larger trips later in the year, when the weather is cooler and there are fewer crowds in many popular destinations.

American reported a net loss of $114 million, or 17 cents per share, on revenue of $13.69 billion. Revenue increased 0.3% from last year. Excluding net special items of $3 million after the impact of taxes, the company had an adjusted loss per share of 17 cents.

American’s third-quarter outlook in July had disappointed investors, though other airlines also lowered their earnings forecasts for the year after demand fell in early 2025 as customers weighed a slew of once-again tariffs and economic uncertainty.

The increased supply of domestic flights this year has prompted airlines to scale back their growth plans to avoid unprofitable flying.
