Andreas Skov Olsen signs for Rangers on loan – but can he rediscover swagger?

So, after struggling in Italy and Germany – but thriving in Belgium and Denmark – could the level of the Scottish Premiership be better suited to Skov Olsen’s game?

The editor-in-chief of the Danish website Vilfortpark.dk, Toke Møller-Thillad, thinks so.

“He shone at a young age in the Danish league,” he says. “He was 19 years old, he had become a goalscorer, and the expectations were really high. At that time he was a striker.

“But he seems to have been the best at clubs just below the top leagues. He’s really good in Denmark, great in Belgium, and I think he’ll do very well for Rangers.”

“I also think that at this stage of his career, we have to acknowledge that he would probably struggle if he moved on to the bigger stages at all.”

Skov Olsen has 40 caps, most recently against Greece in September.

He did not play at Hampden as Scotland secured a place in the World Cup finals but will have plans to take part in the qualifiers in March.

“I think it’s a good place for him to go and get his confidence back and his ego back down a little bit,” Muller-Thilad added.

“As a player, he’s really strong technically. He can take on his opponents one-on-one. He can dribble. He’s very quick for a big man, able to provide dangerous crosses, good at passing, very versatile and a great goal scorer.”

“He should have a lot of opportunities to excel, and he’s at an age where his career isn’t quite done yet, and there’s still a lot of pages left to be written there.”
