💡 Here’s what you’ll learn:

Anne Hathaway plays the pop star and Michaela Coel plays the estranged fashion designer in the premiere of the highly anticipated drama Mother Mary.

The film is directed by David Lowery, whose previous films range from The Green Knight to A Ghost Story to Pete’s Dragon. His last film was the Disney+ original film Peter Pan & Wendy starring Jude Law.

It was described as a “psychosexual pop thriller” about the strained relationship between a couple as they meet to make a dress. A recent interview with Hathaway in Vogue describes her character as “a kind of hybrid between Gaga and Taylor Swift.”

Production on the film began in Germany in May 2023 and the film will be released in April 2026. The original score was written and produced by Charli xcx, Jack Antonoff and FKA twigs with Hathaway providing her own vocals.

Lowery described it as a “strange, wondrous film” inspired in part by Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula. He also likened it to shooting Apocalypse Now.

“I’m sure it’s a movie that will evoke a lot of strong emotions in every possible direction,” Lurie said last year. “It feels very honest to me, very close to me, but it also always surprises me in ways I didn’t expect.”

Next year promises to be a big one for both Hathaway and Cowell. Hathaway will also appear in the comedy sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2, the action-adventure Flowervale Street, Colin Hoover’s Verity, and Christopher Nolan’s star-studded epic The Odyssey.

Cowell, whose most recent acting credits were smaller roles in the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and the TV series Mr and Mrs Smith, stars alongside Ian McKellen in the comedy-drama The Christophers, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival this year and will be released next year. She’s also working on First Day on Earth, her long-awaited small screen follow-up to I May Destroy You.

Charli xcx is also providing the music for Emerald Fennell’s new film about Wuthering Heights, which will be released in February. She will play a version of herself in the satirical comedy The Moment in January.
