✅ **What You’ll Learn**:

For the first time, Anthropic has more OpenAI-certified business customers, according to this month’s AI Index from fintech firm Ramp.

The survey, compiled from Ramp customer spending data, shows that 34.4% of participating companies pay for Human Services, more than any other AI lab, while only 32.3% pay for OpenAI.

This is the first time Anthropics has taken the top spot.

“Anthropics has really been at the forefront among high adoption groups like finance, technology, and professional services,” Ara Kharrazian, an economist at Ramp, told TechCrunch. “It’s across other companies where OpenAI still has the lead, but that has diminished over the last couple of months.”

Because the index only represents companies that use Ramp, it is not a perfect proxy for the market as a whole. However, the sample includes more than 50,000 companies, making it broad and diverse enough to carry its weight.

More importantly, the general trend can be seen across the industry. On OpenRouter’s leaderboard, which samples a different portion of users, OpenAI was last ranked above Anthropy in December 2025.

According to Ramp’s numbers, the past 12 months have been particularly transformative for Anthropic. In May 2025, only 9% of companies were paying for humanitarian products, a figure that rose by 26% in the following 12 months. During the same period, OpenAI’s share decreased by 1%, and the overall share of companies using some type of AI product increased by 9%.

Kharzian doubts whether this advantage will last, for reasons he explained in a post on his blog, but he said that the success achieved last year was evidence that Anthropic had chosen a good strategy.

“What Anthropic did worked really well, which was — start with a very technical customer base, focus on their needs, get really successful at executing and then start scaling through tools like Cowork,” Kherzian told TechCrunch.
