Antoine Semenyu celebrates Bournemouth’s fairytale moment ahead of Manchester City’s expected move

There are no two ways about it, Semenyu will be a huge loss for Bournemouth.

He has been their biggest goal threat this season – scoring 41% of their goals in the Premier League and notching the most shots of any Bournemouth player with 49, an impressive 27 of the goals.

“He will be a big disadvantage because of his quality and also because of his personality in the dressing room,” Tavernier added.

“If this is his last moment, we definitely have to find something else to move forward.”

Iraola added that it will be more than just the goals they will miss when Semenho leaves.

“He was, if not the best, then one of the best I’ve ever coached,” he told BBC Sport.

“He has improved every season. He has scored 10 goals in half a season and he is not even number nine.

“It’s not just about numbers, there are a lot of things – physicality, balls in the air and defensive things. It would be a big mistake.”

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy praised the way Semenho handled matters as talk of a move to Manchester City dominated the media.

He said in today’s match: “He showed great mental strength. He played every match and did not make a fuss.”

“He deserves huge credit for the way he has conducted himself, and scoring the winner on his final appearance – if this is his last appearance – what a way to go.”
