Manchester City will have Antoine Semenyu available for their UEFA Cup semi-final against Newcastle United after the rules of the competition changed this season.
Semenyu, 26, joined Pep Guardiola’s side in a £65m deal from Bournemouth, and made his goalscoring debut in the FA Cup third round, 10-1 win over Exeter City.
The Ghana international came off the bench for Bournemouth in the UEFA Cup second round defeat to Brentford in August, a draw that would have equaled the winger’s draw in previous seasons.
But under EFL Rule 6.4, a player is allowed to play for up to two clubs in the competition in a season.
Max Allen, who was recalled from his loan at Watford, is also eligible to feature against Newcastle in the first leg on Tuesday after playing in the first round of the competition.
Chelsea striker Marc Guyot also benefited from the rule change after he played for Sunderland on loan against Huddersfield Town in the second round, but returned to Chelsea before the end of the summer transfer window.
