Although Semenyu conceded a penalty in the draw with Chelsea, he showed what Bournemouth would miss if he left with two long throws into the box that led to two goals for the visitors.
At the end of the match, he applauded the visiting team’s fans in what seemed like a farewell to them, and many of his teammates came and hugged him.
Semenyu scored nine goals and provided three assists for Bournemouth this season, and his teammate David Brooks said that his departure would be a great loss.
“I’m not going to sit here and say he won’t leave a gap,” the Wales international told the BBC.
“He is our top scorer and has been a very good player for us over the last two years.
“Everyone loves the ants in our team and if he were to join someone else, we wish him all the best, he deserved it.”
Former Chelsea and Blackburn striker Chris Sutton added on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Three and a half fantastic seasons as a player at Bournemouth – the problem Andoni Iraola has is how do you replace him? How do you replace his numbers?”
“An exceptional player who will have the best wishes of the Bournemouth fans. He was a fantastic player for them.”
Dion Dublin, the former Aston Villa and Manchester United striker, said that Semenyu’s exit would be a loss of more than just one player for Bournemouth.
He added: “As a coach, you can say to yourself: Bring the money, I will support myself as a coach, and I am sure Iraola does that.”
He added: “But Semenho is such a big player that it is like losing two or three players.”
