Antonin Kinski has thanked those who sent him messages of support on social media after a “nightmare” display in Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

The Czech goalkeeper was replaced after 17 minutes, when Tottenham was 3-0 behind in the Spanish capital, after he committed errors that led to the first and third goals for Atletico.

The English Premier League team lost the first leg in the round of 16, 5-2.

Kinski posted on his Instagram story: “Thank you for the messages. From dream to nightmare to dream again. See you.”

The 22-year-old was consoled by several team-mates as he walked off the field.

Tottenham manager Igor Tudor, who named him to start ahead of Guglielmo Vicario, did not acknowledge Kinski at the time but said in his post-match media conference that he had spoken to his goalkeeper afterwards.

The former Croatia international said of the switch: “It was necessary to keep the man and keep the team.

“It was, before the game, the right choice to make at the moment [in] – The pressure on Vicario is another competition, and Tony is a very good goalkeeper.

“So it was the right decision for me. After that, it’s easy to say it wasn’t the right decision,” he added.

“I explained to Tony afterwards that he was the right man and a good goalkeeper. Unfortunately, these mistakes happened in such a big match.”
