Apple has acquired all rights to Severance, and will produce future seasons in-house

Apple has acquired the intellectual property rights and all rights to its original studio’s hit show “Severance” Season 5, as first reported by Deadline. Under the deal, worth just under $70 million, Apple’s in-house studio will produce future seasons of the show. He will remain on as executive producer for Season 5.

The deal is similar to the one Apple struck with AMC Studios for the sci-fi show “Silo” after the first season.

Severance will now be one of Apple’s marquee titles, joining popular series like “Your Friends and Neighbors” and “Stick.”

According to Deadline, Severance’s production costs have exceeded what Season 5 can afford. The studio had already requested advances from Apple and was considering moving production from New York to Canada to obtain larger, faster tax deductions. Since Apple had the money to back the show, the company decided to take full control.

Severance is a big deal for the streamer, as the show’s second season became the most-watched series on Apple at the time. It also received the most nominations at the 2025 Emmy Awards.

Deadline reports that the show is expected to run for four seasons, with the possibility of spinoffs, a prequel, and foreign versions.
