Apple is bringing streaming-style subscription packages to the App Store

For the first time, Apple will allow developers to partner with each other to offer subscription bundles through the App Store that will give users access to multiple apps at a lower price than if they subscribed to each separately.

At its WWDC 2026 event, the iPhone maker announced an expansion of its app bundles feature, which typically allowed a developer with multiple apps to sell them in bundles.

Now, Apple says developers will be able to collaborate with each other to offer users “more for less.” Instead of just bundling apps within their catalog, developers can partner with each other to create bundles of apps, which costs less than if the user purchased subscriptions to each app individually.

The new bundles draw from a strategy that has become increasingly popular in streaming and media, where companies like HBO and Disney bundle their subscriptions together to boost their perceived value and customer retention.

Bundles can also make sense for developers who have overlapping customer bases, but are not direct competitors. For example, you could imagine a creativity-focused app package that contains a camera app, photo and video editing tools, and perhaps an app for publishing content across social media platforms.

Likewise, developers of productivity apps can partner with others to fill gaps where their products are missing, allowing users to purchase bundles that include one developer’s to-do list with another’s calendar app, for example.

Apple says developers will also be allowed to create “suites,” which are subscription bundles that aren’t available as standalone purchases.
