Arne Slott: Liverpool coach is having ‘same conversations’ at club despite appalling form

Despite Liverpool’s poor form, sources told BBC Sport that Slott’s position is not under imminent threat.

He has a balance in the bank after his first Premier League title-winning season, while at Anfield there is reflection that it has been a difficult summer for the club with the death of Diogo Jota and a £400m investment to try to revamp the squad.

Sporting director Hughes and chief executive Michael Edwards were key in slot’s appointment, and the Dutchman retains their support.

Liverpool do not make quick decisions and have given Brendan Rodgers more than three seasons as manager despite finishing outside the top four twice.

But there is internal concern about Mohamed Salah’s performance, with a noticeable decline in his level.

He is the main attacking player but Liverpool’s best attacking performance in their last 12 games came in the 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, a game that Salah did not start.

The Egyptian has scored seven goals in 25 appearances since announcing his new contract in April, which will be seen as a good return to some, but the 33-year-old is being judged by the standards he set during his eight years at the club.

Looking ahead to January, Liverpool are interested in reviving their move for Crystal Palace defender Mark Guehi after he missed the final day of the summer transfer window.

Guehi, who is available on a free transfer in July but has multiple options in England and across Europe, is able to discuss the terms of his next contract with clubs outside England in just four weeks.
