The 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at home on Saturday was bad, but the loss to PSV Eindhoven was the lowest point of Liverpool’s season.
Josh Sexton, of Liverpool fan group Anfield Wrap, told BBC Sport: “Liverpool seem to keep finding ways to reach new lows under Arne Slott, and this of course leads to questions about the manager’s future.”
“He will accept that as part of the pressure that comes with such a high-profile job, but now the bigger question is: Is he the right man to rescue the team from such a slump?”
Slott faced the unenviable task of replacing Jurgen Klopp in 2024, but he defied expectations by winning the title last season.
This has earned the Dutchman great popularity among the Liverpool fan base.
There is also sympathy for Sloat after a turbulent summer that saw the exit of key players including Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz, an influx of new signings and the death of Portuguese striker Diogo Jota.
“I wouldn’t mind giving him the chance to try [at fixing this]“Sexton said.
“I just think, given what he has achieved in such a short period of time and how this team is so far ahead of schedule, his bosses have to keep the faith that he can get back on this path – back to where we belong.”
Liverpool qualified for the league title in Slott’s first season in charge, finishing 10 points behind second-placed Arsenal.
Sexton added: “If they sack him, I will be disappointed that the man who brought me such wonderful days watching my team lift the league title last season has not been able to solve the problem, but I will equally understand and try to trust the decision that has been made.”
“I would have reservations about the people who sacked him being the same people who were involved in the decision-making that led to the team being as unbalanced as we are at present.
“But if I didn’t trust the process, none of this would make any sense, right?”
