Arsenal: Can the Gunners win the title without a regular goalscorer?

It is possible that there will be comparisons between the Chelsea team that won the title in 2005 and the current Arsenal team.

Jose Mourinho had a great defense that season with John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho, William Gallas and Paulo Ferreira playing the majority of matches in a backline that only conceded 15 goals throughout the Premier League season.

The Gunners have conceded 14 goals in 21 league games – fewer than any other team – and that has to contend with injuries to key defenders Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba and Riccardo Calafiore this season.

Although his performance was disappointing, Arsenal had only lost once when Gyukiris started the game.

Manchester City, when they won the title in the 2020-21 season, also spread their goals, with Gundogan scoring 13, Sterling 10, and Phil Foden, Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez scoring nine goals that season.

With 17 league games remaining, Trossard and Jokeres would have to score at a rate of about a goal every two games to reach 13 goals, something that seems unlikely given their current scoring rate.

The Gunners have consistently looked like the best all-round team this season, with opposition coaches saying they have no weakness.

Arsenal are also the league’s best team from set-pieces and have scored 17 goals from corner kicks in all competitions this season – the most of any team in the Premier League, giving them an added threat and removing the reliance on having a single top scorer.

After three consecutive second-place finishes and a six-point gap at the top of the league, even without a goalscorer, the Gunners were ready to take the next step and claim victory.
