💡 Here’s what you’ll learn:
Australian spinner Nathan Lyon will play no further role on the final day of the third Ashes Test and is a doubt for the rest of the series with a hamstring injury.
Lyon, 38, who became Australia’s second-highest Test wicket-taker during the Adelaide Test, was injured while diving in the field on the fifth morning.
He grabbed his right hamstring and immediately left the field.
Lyon took three wickets in the fourth over this afternoon to put Australia on the brink of a win that would confirm their series win.
He was left wicketless before his injury on the fifth day, with England showing great fight.
There are only five days left before the start of the fourth Test in Melbourne on December 26 (23:30 GMT, December 25), leaving Lyon little time to recover. The final Test in Sydney comes five days after the end of the fourth Test.
Lyon, one of the greatest spinners of all time, suffered a calf injury during the second Test of the 2023 Ashes, which was an important factor in England’s recovery to level the series 2-2.
He bowled just two overs in the first Test of the series and then said he felt “dirty” after being left out of the second Test in Brisbane.
