✅ Main takeaway:
Aston Martin has committed a procedural breach of Formula 1’s cost cap regulations by late submitting its documentation for the 2024 season.
The offense occurred because the person at the independent company used by Aston Martin who was asked to sign the application was ill at the time of the deadline of 31 March 2025.
The calculations were completed at that time, and the team did not exceed the maximum cost.
Aston Martin received no penalty from the FIA, but was required to pay the costs incurred by Formula 1’s governing body in preparing the team’s “Acceptable Infringement Agreement”.
An FIA statement said: “Although the Aston Martin Racing Team was found to have committed a procedural breach, it did not exceed the maximum cost level, and the procedural breach was of a very minor nature, arising due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the Formula 1 Team.”
It added: “Aston Martin did not gain or seek to obtain any benefit from committing the procedural breach in question.”
Aston Martin submitted its draft documents before the deadline, not just the final signed papers.
All nine other teams were found to be committed to the cost cap, as were all five engine manufacturers.
The 2024 cost cap regulations set the maximum spending per team at $135 million (£106,375 million).
A number of costs are excluded from the cap, including the salaries of drivers and the top three executives, and spending on marketing.
