💡 **What You’ll Learn**:

Snap has big plans to release its latest version of its augmented reality glasses, Specs, later this year. Despite the strategic priority the hardware product represents, the company recently let go of a senior executive associated with the project, due to a dispute with Snap CEO Evan Spiegel.

Tech blog sources originally reported that the company recently lost Scott Myers, senior vice president of specifications, due to a supposed “explosion” with Spiegel.

When reached by TechCrunch for comment, a Snap spokesperson said that Myers has “decided to step down from his position at Snap.” The statement thanked him for his contributions and wished him “the best in his next chapter.” The spokesman also took issue with the “bombing” description but did not reveal more about Myers’ departure.

The spokesperson added: “We can’t wait to roll out the specification globally later this year. We remain focused on disciplined implementation and long-term value creation for our developer partners, the community and shareholders.”

It’s not clear exactly when Myers left the company, or what this alleged “explosion” might entail. When an X user asked source author Alex Heath about the nature of the reported dispute, he replied that it was a matter of “strategy,” adding that he could not reveal more.

Snap has teased the commercial release of the spec for a long time, and in recent months, it has indicated that it is getting serious about launching the product. In January, the company spun off the Specs team into its own distinct subsidiary, Specs Inc., saying the move would allow for “greater operational focus and alignment.”

Myers joined the Snap team in 2020, and before that, he held positions at SpaceX, Apple and Nokia, according to his LinkedIn profile. In an interview with Tom’s Guide last summer, Myers described the Specs’ development process as a “completely new paradigm” but also discussed the challenging nature of getting the form factor right. “I don’t want to see people wearing a wire coming out of the back of their head,” he joked.
